Dubai Expo 2020 postponed to 2021
The Expo 2020 Dubai event managed to catch the eyes of world leaders and leading businesses. However, amidst the COVID- 19 pandemic, it was neither safe nor fruitful to organize the Expo 2020 Dubai event. For that reason, the UAE government reached out Bureau International des Exposition, which is the organization handling expos that takes place all across the globe.
It is well-known that the UAE government is taking economic development forward without risking the lives of its citizens. However, conducting Expo 2020 Dubai this year would not only put the lives of citizens but also the lives of participants of other countries in danger. Also, it might not have had the expected number of participants even after an exceptional hosting.
The UAE government realized it would be better to postpone Dubai Expo 2020. The government reached BIE at the starting of April month for postponement consideration. To this request, the BIE Executive Committee took the recommendation forward on 21st April. To pass this request, two-third of votes were required in favor, which was obtained within a week after voting started on 24th April.
The mega event of Expo 2020 Dubai, in which 192 countries are taking part, will now begin from 1st October 2021 and end on 31st March 2022. This delay will allow the UAE to navigate safely out of the pandemic crisis and get the economy back on track. That will make sure Expo 2020 Dubai will be an event never sighted before as the nation comes up with the best of facilities. The postponement is favorable for participators too. They will get enough time to inline their internal framework best for the company and consumers.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum welcomed the decision of postponing Expo 2020 Dubai and showed his gratitude towards the Member States for their continuous contribution to the Expo. The “time” is of high necessity now and will help in shaping a better post-pandemic world.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum pointed out the belief that the milestone of a safe future goes through the path of genuine collaboration. The swift and overwhelming response of Member States reflects the UAE’s positive role, which it plays with nations all around the world.

The decision has further strengthened the commitment to deliver an unmatchable extraordinary Expo that will capture the eyes of the world.
Due to pandemic, it was not possible to stage the BIE General Assembly, and thus, Member States cast their respective votes remotely.
However, the voting remains open until 29th May though the required votes are already received.
It is the first world expo taking place in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region.
Hopefully, next year October, the world will experience one of the biggest expos where creativity, innovation, and culture will be celebrated exceptionally.
